Idea: I need to ask you to stop. That... Shouting is making people nervous.

When a guard ask you to stop shouting, after your answer they might say something like "indeed it won't ", or "we'll see about that ", or "don't walk away like that " instead of their regular response, depending on your choice and chance.  Anyway, you suddenly feel less fond about paralyzing scrolls, especially if guards start walking around with them. But it is not as if you can complain, with that gag or bit in your mouth. After 24 hours you can report to the barracks (of the same Hold) and ask to be released. I was thinking of something like a "Riften Prisoner Gag" with a unique key.

I have looked around but have found nothing similar yet. I hope that you like this idea and that someone might be able to turn it into nice simple mod.

Devious Devices are fun, but unfortunately a little lore-unfriendly. I hope that the use of devious devices in this idea does make sense.

Although to increase realism, instead of 24 hours (of not drinking and eating), the guard with the key at the barracks might let you run two errands. First get some mead, second get some sweet rolls. And after that you still have to begg and be overly polite to be unlocked.

There seems to be a loop-hole with your idea: the dragonborn should be gaged immersively after shouting just for fun within the city limits. Or more plainly: after having fun with "fuz ro dah" and it's effect on a basekt with some apples the dragonborn will be taken down / overwhelmed by the guards.

Meaning it's not immersive at all when the dragonborn shouts within the city limits. Considering that the player is becoming the most powerful fighter in Skyrim, the guards most likely will not start using magic against him - what if the "hero" resists the spell? I'd say it would be more realistic if the guards approach the dragonborn and warn him not to do that again. And if he does - they escort him to the dungeons. Where he indeed could be gagged.

Point is: the guards shouldn't attack the player (I guess the paralyze scroll counts as attack), but ask him to obey willingly. That might be more immersive. In my humble opinion. Hope you don't see my blathering as destructive to your request.

The paralyze scroll (or any scroll) was meant to explain how the guard is able to overwhelm the dragonborn as part of a simple animation, not as an attack method. Good that you mention this as it apparently was not clear.

The way I think it could play out: After the dialog, you see a guard holding an unidentified scroll in his/her hand. Next thing you know, the screen goes dark for a small moment as if you are blinking with your eyes. But when you can see again, you are walking with a gag in your mouth while the guard is saying "glad that's sorted out".

As to your suggestion, I must admit, I do not know what happens when you are caught for instance in Rorikstead. Do you end up in the dungeon of Winterhold? (perhaps I should do my homework on that part)

Additional note: The players previous action ("say it won't happen again", "Being a smart ass" or "just close the dialog"), might influence the chance that you end up wearing a gag. In all cases however, there is a chance of getting gagged, or not gagged.

I know what you're getting at. There is a scene like this in.. I believe it's "Helgen reborn" - where you are being captured and brought into jail. There is of course the same effect in the vanilla game (no need to spoil, I won't mention it). I mistook your statement - the guards wont actually carry the item "paralyze scroll", and the whole attack is not played out. Like "blend out and awake in jail" thing. That's a good idea. If the player does not feel attacked, he wont burn down the city. ;)

As for beeing taken prisoner: I guess the hero wakes up in the dungeon of the guarding party he was captured by. Rorikstead - Whiterun guards - Dragonhold. Should be the same with Riverwood e.g.

I think I'm gonna take this up for Jaberwocky here, would you mind telling me where in the vanilla game that scene is? I'm trying to think of it but can't come up with anything. Mainly so I can track down the scripting for the event to see how they did it.

Story spoiler.

The thieves guild quest - where the hero is being shot by Karliah, then stabbed by Mercer. Hero goes down, everything get's blurry. No action possible. I guess you could take that setting for your endeavour.

Just my humble, newbish opinion, of course,
