Starting a Pateron - Help me not need a second job

Recommended Posts

As for erotica on amazon, I'm doing it as well.  There is a site, Scribophile:

www.scribophile.com

It's a writers site for writers.  I'm in a group there that uses a business model of writing shorter smut and self publishing quickly, almost weekly or bi-weekly.  We're talking 5000 words here.  The group leader is making over 2000 bucks a month and is now using this as her job but she writes longer stories like I do.  But it's hard and you need to really turn out the books fast.  You and I have an advantage over most of the members at Scribophile because they have no internet exposure.  We do.  I intend to start a mailing list on my forum so my members will get some freebies for joining my mailing list, you can do the same if you're interested.  Not many people start out on Amazon that has exposure to the world, so do consider taking the step to Amazon for sure!

Because of my health I've taken a step back and have just been gaming for a couple weeks as I can't wrap my head around much these days but I will return to writing again soon as things give way.  If you're interested in Scribophile PM me and I'll help you get started over there.  You critique other writer's work and they critique you, this helps to avoid an editor.  My friend used to pay for an editor but she's at the point now she edits her own work and just uses the critiques from Scribophile.  Making money on Amazon can and IS being done and as soon as I can get my finances loosened up, I'll up that dollar subscription a little bit.  I also subscribe to Shoddy Cast so now I'll have two Patreons. ;)

Scribophile looks handy for feedback, but do you know of any sites people can sell smut stories that include rape, bestiality and everything else short of kiddie porn?

For extreme hardcore sex like husbandry bestiality, savage rape and sadism; honestly the best way is to just do it yourself.  You can self publish a book in E-reader format easily.  So just set up a site and mailing list and sell away.

Amazon will surprise you though.  People do get away with a lot over there, if you do it right.  My books involve rape, tentacle sex, monster sex and sadism (I'm not published yet).  As long as you don't put this info in your blurbs and be careful of titles, you can get away with a lot.  Besides, even though you enjoy writing these things your readers might not enjoy reading them.  If you're setting up your books to sell, then you want to do some research and see what people are buying.  I had a slaver that cut off the nipples of men and women with a cigar cutter and a writer friend of mine freaked.  She said people (mostly women) aren't going to want to read that!  So now he just threatens them with the cigar cutter.  :)

If anyone is interested in discussing this further I can set up a thread.  ;)

Halstrom, you pretty much summed up some of the works by the Marquis De Sade, or various works of Victorian

erotica- underage characters and all. You left out gore and snuff from the description.

Good luck with the paetron thing Loogie.  If i could make a suggestion, a really low $ per month (eg $5 per) might attract significant interest from people who just want you to be able to continue modding.  I've seen a few people end up with significant incomes from paetron, offbeater, kickstarter, etc basically for continuing to do the same kinds of things they had been giving away to a loyal fanbase.  They even still give away the finished product for free, but paetrons/backers/etc get a bit more input and access to more work in progress stuff.

I love the mods you've put up here, and i can't see a reason why this can't end up being a good revenue stream, and allow your fans a fiscal way to say thank you.

Also, find out what you need to do with tax in your area of the world as far as paetron goes, because it has been making international news in europe in terms of taxation law (I live in Australia, and we're hearing about it here).

Just my 2 cents....

and as always, thanks for the work you've put in to make these mods.

I love Tryout, I've moved a couple dead pledges over to yours. :D

Patreon doesn't require PayPal - it doesn't even support it. I was just telling windpl it's possible to get a debit card that will act as a credit card linked to his PayPal account.

It does actually let you use PayPal if you've got your account linked to Patreon but it silently fails at the end of the month on adult pledges, I've fallen for that a few times.

Thank you much!

I'll be in touch with you about your pledge in a couple days, right now things are crazy.

Money is very tight for me right now Loogie, but after all the times you helped me with NV technical support and all you have done once I get better situated financially I will gladly donate to your cause.

I'm really glad to see it's working out for you! :D

I'm actually overwhelmed by the positive response - I expected maybe to have $6 and none of the $35 tiers sold by this point.

Because of the generous nature of my current top-backers - don't wanna name them unless they want to be named - I've opened up two more $35 slots. If I can hit $200 by the end of July combined with an upcoming $1 raise at my day job, this will work out.

2012 onward has been one disaster after another for me. It feels great to be looking forward to the future again for a change.

I will do it! I will take the ring to Mordor!

Oh man, I know the feeling.  I wish I could add to the cause, but I'm pretty much worse off than you in the financial situation, so I have nothing I can add yet.  If I can change it I'll happily send some cash your way.
