I'm sorry for what happened... v3a

View File

Are you a sentimentalist? A tough, dragon-killing hombre on the outside, with a soft, sympathetic center?
Do you feel sorry for the poor unfortunates of the land?
Do you wish you could comfort those lost souls, pining spouses, and newly homeless farmers of the world?
Well, maybe you can. A few of the right words can bring a smile to those NPCs who have been hard done by.

DESCRIPTION:
This mod alters several NPCs (More to come! Stay tuned!) who have been beaten down by living in Skyrim.
Sometimes all it takes is the right word in the right place, and folks might be happier with their lot in life.
I made this after jordisslave (who has been the inspiration for most of my work so far!) mentioned that she wanted to be able to give some closure to Haming for having lost his parents, after killing Alduin.
Thermius then suggested something similar with Torygg and Elisef.
And this mod was born.

REQUIREMENTS:
Skyrim. Link in case you forgot, or don't know what Skyrim is.
Fuz-Ro-D'oh for the silent dialogue lines.
Sexlab (for v2 onwards) - compiled against v1.59c.

WHO IS AFFECTED:
This mod is a work in progress. It currently affects the following NPCs:

--You will have some unique dialogue with Haming depending on how far you've proceeded along the main quest.
--You will also be able to reassure the wandering farmers that you'll take care of the dragon problem.
--You can bring a message from Torygg to Elisef. That is, if you can get Torygg to actually talk to you... it can be a problem.
--If you tell Sibbi that Lynly has fled to Morrowind, and go back to Lynly, you can now reassure her that all is well.
--Torbjorn (a couple of different things) (*also includes Muiri, Ingun, orc wisewomen, Quintus, and Bothela in his little sidequest)
--Gisli of Solitude (assuming you're male)
--Neetrenaza of Windhelm (assuming you're a nord)
--Nilsine (assuming she's alive and you're female)
--Temba

I am taking suggestions and requests for other unfortunate or underpriveleged NPCs. Leave a comment in the support thread! :)

POSSIBLE CONFLICTS, NOTES, CAVEATS:
Anything that alters the dialogue trees for the quests or NPCs mentioned above might conflict.
Things that alter the NPCs directly (such as appearance mods) should be fine.
A conflict may occur if you install Reward Your Followers, then uninstall it, then clean the scripts... I'm Sorry For What Happened contains a script (three scripts?) with the RWRD prefix, because I'm an idiot, so if you get rid of it there might be a CTD in store for you. Sorry about that... I'll fix it one of these days.

UNINSTALLING:
Remove "is4wh.esp" from your data directory, and all scripts starting with "is4w_" from your scripts folder.
Be careful when running a clean save, due to the aforementioned possible CTD.

FAQ
Most of the time, when you see "Frequently Asked Questions," it's because the author did not actually get questions asked frequently but instead decided to post some answers to questions that he or she feels may be asked, or points that should be made, or something like that. I hate to buck the trend, so here goes.

Q: I'm having a problem with this mod.
A: That's not only possible, it's likely. I'm a newb to modding. Leave a comment in the support thread and I'll get back to you. I can't guarantee I can fix a problem, but I'll do my best. :)

Q: I have a question about this or any other mod. Should I PM you?
A: No, please. Use the support thread. That's what it's there for.

Q: Your mod conflicts with <other mod>.
A: That's also highly likely. There's a good chance one of the NPC dialogue nodes I've edited is being referenced by any other dialogue-style mod. In general, for stuff like this, put whichever one you want more lower on the list.

Q: Can I suggest <feature> or <NPC>?
A: Yes please! I can't guarantee the request will get into the mod, because as I've said I'm not very good at modding, but I'll certainly consider it!

Q: Can I translate your mod?
A: Certainly! I didn't write it with any sort of translation in mind, though, and I do tend to use American English idioms and phrasing, so... good luck! Go ahead and post your translation in the support thread and I will link to it in the OP.

Q: Can I or you upload this to another site?
A: Nope. I don't personally have anything against other sites, but all of the stuff I do is Sexlab-based so it's all staying right here on Loverslab.

CREDITS:
--jordisslave for inspiring this mod's existence
--Thermius for pushing it further
--Anyone and everyone who makes suggestions!

Things I have learned:
1: I should really learn to READ MY OWN DAMN POSTS to avoid the situation where I find out that a question I just asked already has an answer... and I'm the one who gave it. By the way, thanks jfraser. :)
2: Blocking dialogue blocks other kinds of dialogue. Duh.
3: Check your properties. Always! Yes, even when you are absolutely certain that they will autofill properly!
4: Checking "quest completed" is unnecessary and can be distracting if a quest doesn't have any objectives.

Changelog:
v1 - Lynly, Torygg & Elisef, Haming, wandering displaced farmers
v2 - Torbjorn, Gisli, Neetrenaza, Nilsine
v2a - Went back and fixed some potential bugs, added global checks
v2b - Fixed Neetrenaza's dialogue appearing for everyone, and partially, sort-of fixed Torygg. Not really. Kinda.
v2c - Fixed a bug that could prevent sex from triggering.
v3 - Added Temba, her arms wide
v3a - Fixed (hopefully) getting "quest completed" notifications/sounds when doing Temba and Torygg's quests.

Ahh... welcome to the rabbit hole of a growing list of personal mods :)

Not included: 12-15 mods made that alter one tiny little thing in the game.

Like, for example, decreasing the weight of an inkwell from 0.3 to 0.2, which we can all agree is something fundamental that should have been in the game from the start and I should receive a medal for making.

Oh, yes! I'll call it "CoCo's Useless Crap" and it'll be the bestest mod evar! ;)

Seeing as how this mod just got started, will you also be implementing sex?

Why not? I see no problem with that. If you can think of any NPCs that would make sense with.

The first one I thought of was Narfi... and Solutions already has that one sewn up. :)

Great! In fact, I do have some in mind though I don't really remember their names so I'll try and describe them as best I can (I've gone back and played Borderlands 2 a lot lately).

-Rich Family in Windhelm who recently lost their daughter, maybe try and comfort both parent and daughter, especially mother.

-Erikur's Sister, Gisly (<---I think that's their names).

-The mourning parents in Falkreath whose daughter was recently eaten by Sinding.

-Every beggar in Skyrim but more importantly the beggars in Markarth.

-The drunken man found in Winterhold, perhaps after helping him find out about his deceased lover.

-The dark elves and argonians of Windhelm maybe???

-Adult family members of man, in Solitude, who was executed for opening the gates for Ulfric Stormcloak

-Serena, after asking and learning about her lonely childhood life

I can't think of anymore, need to go back and play Skyrim again. Still, I hope this somewhat helps.

Hmm... The problem is, I want to keep things pretty vanilla... that is, just like people's responses in dykwia, I want to match what they say with their ostensible personality. So I've got some issues with these:

-Rich Family in Windhelm who recently lost their daughter, maybe try and comfort both parent and daughter, especially mother.
I dunno about this. Not sure Tova would be open to the idea. Torbjorn, on the other hand, just might, but he's already taking solace in alcohol. Nilsine might go for it, though.
-Erikur's Sister, Gisly (<---I think that's their names).
I could see Gisli going for something like that.
-The mourning parents in Falkreath whose daughter was recently eaten by Sinding.
Again, I'm not sure I want to break up a marriage by sexing up one or both of the spouses...
-Every beggar in Skyrim but more importantly the beggars in Markarth.
Yes indeed... but Solutions has that covered. There are a couple of beggars who could stand some non-solutions comfort, though... I'm thinking of people in Markarth and Riften mostly.
-The drunken man found in Winterhold, perhaps after helping him find out about his deceased lover.
Which drunken man? You mean Rolff? Ugh... I got mixed up with Winterhold/Windhelm again. You meant Ranmir. On the one hand, he lost the love of his life... he felt she betrayed him, but then you find out what really happened, and I'm not sure he'd just jump into the sack. On the other hand, he is surely in need of a woman's touch right about now... but on the third hand, he seems more contemplative after finding out what really happened than sad and sorrowful. Lemme think about it.
-The dark elves and argonians of Windhelm maybe???
I can definitely see some random NPCs in dire straits like that being open to the idea of sex. I think I'll link it to something specific, though, rather than just everyone being open to the idea from the get-go... I thought about speechcraft, but I wonder if I can link it into arousal. It depends on the NPC... Neetrenaza might be only too happy to dominate a Nord at any time, but someone like Suvaris Atheron would probably need to be persuaded. I dunno.
-Adult family members of man, in Solitude, who was executed for opening the gates for Ulfric Stormcloak
Again, I don't think so. Addvar and Greta are married.
-Serena, after asking and learning about her lonely childhood life
Yes, absolutely! Except... I'm having some real troubles getting DLC to open up properly in the CK. All the scripts are inexplicably missing. Otherwise dykwia would have had a couple NPCs from Solstheim added already. If I ever manage to figure it out, certainly. :)

It strikes me that, for people like Addvar/Greta or Mathies/Indara or Tova/Torbjorn, I could add in a check to see if the other spouse is dead, and if so, problem solved, I guess.
My problem is that I'm not sure that sex is the best "comfort" response for someone grieving. Especially sex with a random stranger.

Best get all the permissions for that mod pack then, hurr hurr... "I know where the door is, thanks, you've been a great audience..."

Another quest you could extend is the 'No News is Good News' quest for Angeline Morrard.

Fura was supposedly killed in action by the stormcloaks near Whiterun. On the presumption that it would be near their camp, it would be likely for her body to have been snatched by the mage (necromancer) at the Ritual Stone. Maybe a minion of the mage (skelly) could have some sort of trinket to return to Angeline. If you have it in you inventory, maybe you could add a conversation to give Angeline a bit of closure.

Also; Tormir... because; Raisins ;)

I forgot about her. I think someone already mentioned her too... maybe in the dykwia thread? Was it you? Jordisslave? MY IMAGINATION?

That's a good scenario for her too.

EDIT: I wonder if some dev wanted Fura Bloodmouth to be related... I can't remember her dialogue offhand, but wasn't she the one who said something about being rejected from the companions for being too weak? Enh, no matter. Just idly wondering.

Well technically its possible for Torbjorn to be single if you follow the Dark Brotherhood storyline. He doesn't seem to acknowledge that his wife is dead. Perhaps if you cause his wife to commit suicide present a choice to either comfort him or if you confess you killed his daugher that made his wife kill herself then he'd beg you to kill him as well so he can be with his wife once more. Man, that sure got dark, but Skyrim stories aren't all rainbows and butterflies.

Great idea! How about this...

Sleeping Beauty...

The old alchemist  in solitude lost a daughter in Whiterun as detailed by an officer.  Maybe she is believed KIA, but is actually MIA.  Maybe the alchemist asks for flowers to be placed on grave.  No grave is found.  She is near by and needs a healing potion (either leveld list or a quest specific item) because she took an herb combo that slowed metabolism to stop the bleeding and appeared as dead. Maybe she could "spawn" as a wounded in Kynes temple of Whiterun upon completion of grave discovery.  Or, she may just be in an out of the way location.  I do not know how quest triggers work, I am a newb just learning how to make rooms in the creation kit...

As this is "loverslab", maybe the healing potion must be delivered by a kiss ala Sleeping Beauty.

Could be new NPC hireling and or marriage prospect.  Could have a similar potion chest reward system as blackbriar in Riften.

Fountain of Limited Youth

One or more of the old people in Skyrim, are not chronologically old, but have had much of their life force sucked away.  Somewhere there is the fountain of youth.  However, it does not restore youth to all.  It balances the ledger.  It can return life that has been stolen. So. player will have to figure out who actually stole the life force take it back and return it.  Choose the wrong one and the accussed just gets wet and the player needs to refill the magic bottle.

To add utility, maybe the fountain of limited youth also has a negative effect to the undead, which also seem to disrupt the normal order of life and death.

Thanks for adding more content to a great game/

Grelka in Riften. Please shut that bitch up.

Not sure about Grelka. She never seemed in need of comfort... more in need of a good swift kick.

EDIT: Actually, I'll add her to my dykwia list. :)

True about Torbjorn. And yes, comfort can come in many forms... why, just look at the Old Orc random encounter. And considering that by that point you're a member of the Dark Brotherhood, the player shouldn't have any qualms about killing someone because they ask for it!

Seems like a cool idea, but your description is sort of vague.

What would be an example of how you would "make these characters whole again?"

Mechanically, there's nothing much that's happened so far. It's all dialogue.

Example: Once you reach Sovngarde, you might run into Torygg. He wishes you to take a message to his dead wife Elisef. If you do so, Elisef feels a bit better knowing that Torygg is okay (dead, yes, but okay for all that).

Example: The wandering farmers who've been displaced by a dragon attack might take some comfort if you tell them you're Dragonborn and will see the dragon defeated.

Example: Lynly Star-Sung will feel quite a bit of relief when you return to her after telling Sibbi that she's fled to Morrowind.

Example: Haming ostensibly wants revenge on Alduin for killing his parents at Helgen (we felt that what he really wanted was just closure but couldn't articulate it like that), so you have various options to tell him that it's all okay (depending on your progress through the main quest).

I love this idea.

Maybe you could add support for healing those farmers in Kynareth's Whiterun temple? Don't know if someone's already got a mod for it. Also maybe a way to ease the pain of the soldiers in the Stormcloak and Imperial camps.

What farmers? You mean the wounded farmer and wounded guard on the benches, or are there farmers wandering the temple I don't know about? Jordisslave mentioned seeing some farmers at an inn that I don't remember, so I could just be missing them entirely. Gods know it's possible... the first few times I played through the Blessings of Nature quest, I didn't even see Maurice in the temple, much less get close enough for a force-greet and take him to the Eldergleam Sanctuary.  :dodgy:

I'll take a look at it, but I think they might be scripted to sit there, and I hesitate to mess with any vanilla scripts. Hell, for all I know they're not NPCs at all, just NPC-looking objects (I think that's how they did the NPC lying on the table in Castle Volkihar, not sure). If I can hijack them without damaging anything else (such as schedules and scripts for them, Acolyte Jenssen, or Danica) I'll try it out.

Might be somewhat the same for the wounded soldiers, we'll see.

Not a bad idea. Different scenario from what Thermius suggested, and also a bit more complex... I'll look into it.

As this is "loverslab", maybe the healing potion must be delivered by a kiss ala Sleeping Beauty.

I don't think we even have an animation for kissing someone while sleeping. I mean, I could just do it through dialogue, but that seems kinda weird. Lemme think about it.

Besides, I don't know how to even trigger that kind of thing. All I know about the CK is dialogue, basically. :)

+1 for healing injured farmers and soldiers if you can pull that off :)

Another thing that keeps bothering me about the Temple in Whiterun is that, for a healing center, there is nobody to talk to to cure your diseases, sell you healing potions or heal you or your followers.

Come to think of it, the so-called "jewel of Skyrim" doesn't actually have any professional healers at all. The local alchemist (self professed "of a sort" healer) is the best you've got.

Of course, now that I think about it, the only actual professional healers in the entire game are the Vigilants of Stendarr... does anyone else practice restoration magic like that?

There's a mod that gives Danica the ability to sell cure disease spellbooks, IIRC. Not sure about that...
