THE NAKED MAGE

"Have you ever wanted to run around Skyrim naked and still have the benefits of the enchanted college robes active? Well now you can. I made this mod for myself specifically to work with Devious Devices mods and Dangerously Nude. And it works like a charm." - Kendo2

HOW IT WORKS:
For every enchanted college robe in the game there is a craftable naked version. All schools of magic are supported as well as all of the perk levels for each school. From Naked Novice of Alteration to Naked Master of Restoration, they are all available.

Each naked mage ‘outfit’ (you’re actually naked) is tracked by the game for NPC comments and any reactions added by SexLab mods. This mod’s spell effects and enchantments have key words attached to them, so you can be the naked mage but the moment you equip clothes or armor on your body the enchantments stop working. Get naked again and you’re back in business. The naked mage outfit does not use any body slots. That means the enchantments will still work if you’re wearing it under Devious Devices items; and those items will not disappear...because you’re naked.

This mod uses whatever body mod (male or female) and skeleton you have installed...again because you’re naked.

GAME PLAY:
Zed S. Curio was working on another project before he came to Skyrim to torment unsuspecting girls from the Mage’s College. Somehow his notes made it to Skyrim and they detail a lengthy process of alchemy and forging. The end results are various enchanted ointments that when applied to the bare skin give the benefit of the standard college robes.

The base note book and Novice level Naked Mage recipes can be bought from Lucan Valerius in Riverwood, but like Lucan says, “If you want anything more you’ll have to go to the College at Winterhold.” Our old friend Urag gro-Shub at the College also sells the base note book along with all of the recipes for each school of magic and each perk level. He and Zed are buddies, after all.

All of the base components for the naked mages are crafted at the cook pot and the smelter. Why the cook pot and smelter? Because using those two crafting stations does not provide skill increases and things like the smithing forge and the alchemy lab are over used and choked by other mods. This might sound like a dumb idea but once you read the base note book it will all make sense. I used a combination of Earth magical folklore and Skyrim game lore to enhance the role play experience. Once you start reading and looking at the recipes you’ll understand.

You cannot craft the naked mages unless you have both the base note book and the desired recipe in your inventory. This has been tested, and without those two conditions and it bloated both the cook pot and smelter interfaces. It looked too cluttered and it was annoying trying to filter through 30+ options. This way is better and allows you to focus on what you're trying to craft.

Though Urag gro-Shub sells the book and recipes, he will not sell them to unqualified spell casters. A Novice cannot buy Adept or above recipes, and even if he did sell them, the way this mod is set up would prevent you from making them. To make a naked mage Novice outfit you must have that perk in the school of magic. This is true for every perk level and corresponding outfit. A Novice cannot make a Master level naked mage outfit. You lack the skill and understanding. This also prevents the mod from being used as a cheat.

The naked mage outfits cannot be sold. No one is interested in a magical ointment that doesn’t work. Role play it in your head if you need to.

For those of you who use mods that apply penalties for being under dressed in cold weather I added a weak Resist Frost effect to the enchantments. For those of you familiar with Skyrim alchemy you might recognize ingredients that don't seem to fit the profile of naked mage enchantments. Zed Curio keeping you naked and warm is the reason.

REQUIREMENTS:
Skyrim.esm
Update.esm

And a special Thank You to Min for allowing the invokation of Zed S. Curio’s name for this little mod.

Q&A:
Q: Does this work with Devious Devices items?
A: Yes. DD was one of the reasons Kendo2 made this. The naked mage uses no body slots whatsoever. You can wear it under DD items without issue.

Q: Why didn’t you just make spells or regular potions? Why are they outfits?
A: The concept started as a base magical effect and is applied it to both a potion and a spell with a 999 day duration (the longest available in the game). They both worked as intended and that posed a problem. There was no way to prevent the player from stacking one spell or potion on top of another one without having to script for HasMagicEffect for 30 different spell effects. That would be 30 scripts with over 1200 different checks in Papyrus just to stop the player from having two of the added spells running at once. Nobody wants Papyrus spinning its wheels when it sifts through 30 scripts with 1200 variables. Do you? Yeah, outfits were the way to go.

Q: The way you have the crafting is a pain in the ass. Can you make it simpler or just add the outfits to a vendor?
A: No. This mod is set up this way intentionally. It is meant for role play. And the naked mage outfits are useless to NPCs. They only work when naked and cannot work if worn under clothing. They have no value so why would anyone sell them or buy them?

PERMISSIONS:
Kendo2 put a lot of thought and work into this foolish and fun little mod. He normally only uses Destruction and Conjuration spells but, added support for all of the schools of magic. This tripled his work load for things he never uses. That being said, if someone want’s to take this to the next level and add SexLab functions to it, that’s cool. Just drop me, Game Goblin (The current owner and host) a PM and let me know what’s going on.

UPDATE:
01 Sept. 2015 *Previous file versions removed. Updated files added.*

The update adds three new types of Naked Mage:
Naked Arch Mage
Urag gro-Shub will sell you the recipe once you have the Master Perk in any school of magic. You will not be able to make the Naked Arch Mage until you actually are Arch Mage.

Naked Battlemage
Fortifies Destruction Magic and adds Mage Armor. The governing school is Destruction.

Naked Mage Armor
Adds Mage Armor like Naked Battlemage but at a higher value, as it does not fortify any schools of magic. The governing school is Alteration.

Naked Battlemage and Naked Mage Armor have perk levels (Novice to Master) and the Naked Arch Mage does not. Lucan Valerius sells the new Novice versions and Urag gro-Shub sells all of them.

can you add unenchanted versions too? as soon as i get ench skill high enough i tend to create my gear myself instead of using those robes.

Or some armored version counted as light armor - those mage armor perks from alteration is the dumbest thing i've ever heard of.

You need to spent number of perk points, recast it every 1 goddamn minute (seriously - what kind of idiot invented that?) and it still gives you by far less armor rating than any light armor...

Whoever was responsible for creating mage gameplay at bethesda should lose his job...

Thank you for the comments.

@ hentaijin

I did everything I could think of the prevent players abusing the what the mods adds.  The naked mage items are ignored by NPCs (because you're naked) and they cannot be disenchanted at the arcane enchanter to learn the college enchantments.  There might be a loophole somewhere but I did my best.

The way I have the mod set up makes this impossible.  Each magic effect and enchantment I have uses key words to prevent them from being used if clothing or armor is equipped on the body (slot 32).  The vanilla spell effects used by vanilla enchantments do not have those key words.  That means you would be able to add a vanilla enchantment to the naked suit and then wear it under enchanted clothing or armor and stack the effects.  That would make the mod a cheat.  Also, the naked mage armor items in the CK doesn't have the keywords necessary to be recognized by the arcane enchanter.  They cannot be enchanted or disenchanted.

If there was an armored version then you wouldn't be naked.  A possible solution to your request would be to make new magic effects that duplicate the vanilla ArmorFF magic effects used by spells like Oak Skin and Iron Skin and add them to new enchantments.  That might be possible, but I would still do it in a way that mirrors the Novice to Master perk progression; probably use the Enchanting skill for that but they would still be made the same way (cook pot and smelter).  And because the items would lack the keywords, you wouldn't be able to improve them at the armorer's table or get the armor rating bonuses from perks like Well Fitted or Full Set.  And getting hit while wearing them wouldn't improve your armor skill.   You'd be naked and enchanted to resist damage and that's it.

And if I put the thought and effort into the armored version of the mod like I did for the Naked Mage that means research into Earthly magic folklore and digging through wikis for Skyrim.  Then I would have to write another note book explaining the concept.  I'm not ready for all of that yet, but after typing this out I think what you are requesting is possible.

@aqqh

I did a test of your idea for armor that isn't armor...because you're naked.  It works.

Here's a screen of the enchantment.     And the item shown in the inventory.

She's naked but her armor rating is 40 (from the enchantment).

So what you were asking for as far as a 'Naked Warrior' goes is 100% possible.  Now it is just a matter of doing a little research, adding to the existing note book, more recipes, etc.

I changed the order of the MOD

Place a mad magician in the game that will be sold recipe.
To find this mage, you need to complete a task.

I use More Nasty Critters and I don't get a conflict.  Load my mod after More Nasty Critters.  And WHY does More Nasty Critters change a merchant's vendor chest?

(You can ignore that, read the EDIT.)

AND there is no way in hell I'm changing my mod for anything unless I decide to add something to it.  Changing how to get the books or recipes isn't going to be one of them.

EDIT:

Look at what I have boxed in red.

More Nasty Critters doesn't change the vendor chest or the cell.  For my mod, I added items to the chest in the Object Window.  My mod does not edit the cell.

Perhaps you could put in some versions with higher enchantments, and add some recipes (requiring the master version of the invisible robe and maybe some additional ingredients), and then put a condition on the recipe to require a minimum level of enchanting skill to create it.

So for example, a recipe to create a +25% robe would require a master robe, some misc ingredients, and 65 enchanting skill to create, a +30% robe would require a +25% robe, ingredients, and 80 enchanting, and a +35% robe would require the +30% robe and 95 enchanting. Just throwing out some numbers ottomh without checking, but you get the idea, for enchanting it's easy to pick them well balanced since it cannot be buffed beyond 100 in vanilla.

That would help to jump the hole from the master robes to the point where you can just dual enchant your jewellery, stockings and high heels and actually run around naked :D

There are so many variations possible it's mind-blowing.  What I have on the front burners right now is adding a Naked Battlemage version (fortify Destruction and a Shield magic effect) and a Naked Warrior version (with only the Shield effect but with higher multipliers for more protection/armor rating).

The original goal of the mod was to make exact duplicates of the college robes enchantments but get them while naked.  Mission accomplished.  Anything after that starts being mod creep and an endless project.  I'm going to finish with the Naked Battlemage and Warrior update and then that will probably be it.

I don't have a problem with someone else picking up this mod once I'm done doing what I want to do.  As long as they keep the motif of the recipes, note book and ingredients the way I have them (do it the way I did it, not introduce over-powered outfits or cheats, and not break the 'lore' of the mod) they can add naked mage outfits they like and upload them.  If I need to turn the esp into an esm so it can serve as a 'framework' of sorts I can do that too.

liking this idea...gonna check it out...im guessing it ok to wear jewelry and not lose the buffs? I almost always play as naked mage anyhow see..but was using my own custom made jewelry to reduce mana costs of all spell schools so I could use more spells per second and..erm..not die so fast on master setting...tried legendary..we shall not go there again. So this is right up my street, so to speak..thx for upload Kendo....used a lot of your mods in fallout...im guessing you the same guy heh.

is there naked archmage ointment ???

becouse its very rare people use only one school of magic

That's a good idea.  I'll add a Naked Arch Mage to the update.

The following body slots can be used and not affect the naked outfits: ring, circlet, necklace/amulet, head, hair, long hair, hands and feet, and so on.  Basically as long as you do not wear anything on your body (slot 32) that counts as clothing or armor the enchantments will stay in place.  Some Devious Devices items use slot 32 (bras, nipple piercings, etc.).  The game reads that slot as the body.  Since they lack the KeyWords my enchantments look for the buffs will still work.  And since my outfits don't use any body slots the DD items will be visible on your character.

For my naked mage; she wears a hood, amulet, ring, left ring (from another mod), gloves and boots.  Nipple, navel and vaginal piercings also work.

And yeah, I'm that Kendo. :P

Just to clarify, do you need to have both books + all required ingredients + the required perks for the recipes to show up in the cookpot and smelter lists? I haven't seen any of the recipes show up yet, and I'm trying to determine if I'm just being dumb and missing one of the prerequisites or if maybe there is a conflict with one of the other mods that affect those lists (I'm using Realistic Needs and Diseases which affects the cookpot and Complete Crafting Overhaul Remade + PerMa which affect the smelter).

Link to comment

I do not use any overhauls so your guess is as good as mine on that one.

To craft one of the naked mages you will need in your inventory; the recipe you want to make, the base note book, all of the ingredients in that recipe, and the required perk level for that school of magic.

If you have all of that and it is still not showing up, I need to know specifically which naked mage are you trying to craft.  I'll look in the esp I have an make sure everything is as it should be.  It might not be your fault...but it probably is.  :P  *joking*

At this point, I'm just trying to make the Novice robes.

I can create the corundum and silver dust (although oddly it won't create the Petty level - the smelter is asking for Lesser soul gems, even though the novice recipes say "petty"). But the Tincture medium never shows up in either the Food or the Misc cookpot lists. I have the garlic, snowberries, thistle, salt, and purple flowers. I also have the first perks in Destruction, Alteration, and Restoration.

To be thorough, I moved the ESP to the very bottom of my load order so that if there was a conflict then this mod would "win", but no change in game.

@HiLordLWaster

Everything is kosher on my end.  Infused Novice Silver Powder requires one amethyst, one lump of silver ore and one filled petty soul gem.  All the ingredients for the Tincture Medium are the same in both esps and they are both what's in the recipes.  I THINK you have another mod jacking with you because I only used what was available in the Skyrim.esm and the Update.em.

If you use a mod that changes the fundamentals of your game it will change it fundamentally and usually in ways the mod author hasn't considered.  I learned maybe 8 years ago to not use overhauls, no matter how cool they may seem.

I'm working on a system now that adds a new crafting station removed from the ones in the vanilla game and that no one has fucked with, other than me since I'm the one that 'invented' it.  I wish I had been further along on it's development before I finished The Naked Mage mod.  If I had been, that's what it would be using and we wouldn't be having this discussion about why you think you need a mod that overhauls something as innocuous as smelters. :D

I suspect you are correct - as Hexsparks100 mentioned, PerMa does change the base perks, so that's probably the big one right there. Plus there's the crafting overhaul messing with the smelter and RND messing with the cookpot. With all that interference, it's not too surprising something got messed up.

Anyway, thanks for looking into the problem. I don't blame you for not wanting to try to create patches for every overhaul under the sun (sounds tedious...)
