Sexout Chems/Hookers/Casino mod

This is mostly getting ideas out there while I remember, plus sort of a side question at the end (but if people are like 'yo, just look the damn stuff up yourself, shut up' then that's cool.)

 

At some point, once my holiday occurs, I would like to attempt to make sort of an expansion for the Chems, Alcohol and Meds mod from the Nexus (which essentially adds a shitload of alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, etc, along with a few scattered quests relating to it, and functionality for tracking alcohol/drug levels, aka sort of different levels of drunkness and being able to overdose and stuff.)

 

I know there was (or maybe still is) a Sexout mod that was relating to drugs somehow, but I feel like it'd be neat to have mods relating specifically to this. Not even necessarily all sex-related, but there'd probably be a fair bit of it. And then I kind of digressed into running a casino/crime family thing.

 

This is just rambling as I go along, really. But I'd like to, if possible, gear this up for a few different forms of drug-related things. Probably thinking way outside what's easy to do, but these are just ideas anyway. With kinda sub ideas under each category in order of probable difficulty.

 

1.) Drug Dealing. Obviously.

      a.) The likely least difficult to implement would be just maybe some dialogue options (a bit akin to SexoutSex) where you can offer to sell drugs to random NPCs in exchange for caps, sex or maybe something else like ammo or food. Be cool if there were different options or different likelihoods of them saying yes depending on their faction/karma/etc. (Fiends would pretty much always be 'fuck yeah' while the White Glove Society would be like 'ohoho as if we, the fancypants group, would consent to druggedupness, go bother the Omertas.') And some wanting different sorts of drugs or alcohol (maybe the White Gloves don't want the cheap drugs but will accept the nicer varieties of meth and tobacco, or some white wine at least) would be neat. Essentially, being a very low-key independent dealer, kind of like Dixon.

      b.) Quest chains relating to doing this on a bigger level. Maybe there's a faction of drug dealers and you work your way up through the ranks. Starting at stuff like 'deliver this shipment of cocaine' to 'wipe out these competitors.' Maybe those competitors are existing factions or other made up ones. (Probably some Fiend and possibly Omerta and Khan slaughter in there, but maybe some peaceful options too for those not big on totally wrecking their reputation.)

 

2.) Drug Addict. Some functionality for playing as kind of a drugged up possible-whore-but-at-least-addict. (Be especially fun in conjuction with stuff that makes you hang out with the Fiends, like Tryouts and the Fiend history from Alternative Start.)

      a.) The ability to beg chems from people. Would be more restricted than the dealing because presumably not everyone's wandering about with drugs in their pockets. Would probably be mostly restricted to characters who would, such as Khans, Fiends, Omertas, Dixon, other drug dealers. Maybe some wasteland doctors if your character specifically wants the more medicinal ones.

      b.) Quest lines of getting tangled up with drug dealers in exchange for drugs. Gomorrah-style slavery, maybe, where they hook you on certain chems and then make you work for more hits. Or just a lot of more degrading or messy jobs in exchange for more drugs. Probably a lot of sex, maybe some that isn't.

      c.) I'm also not sure on how possible this is, if it's possible at all, but perhaps people might approach and try to take advantage if your character has their alcohol/drug level above a certain level, kind of like in Sexout. Aka when they're totally wasted. Though that option I'd probably want to be optional.

 

3.) Casino. Sort of a combination of the two, and probably near-if-not-entirely-impossible, but it's fun to think about. But setting up and running, or alternatively taking over rather than starting from scratch, some kind of casino that caters for this stuff. Sort of like the Run the Lucky 38/Bison Steve mods. Or maybe killing all the Omertas and running Gomorrah on your own terms. That'd be great. This is absolutely out of the question until I get more experienced at modding, though. (I'm still in the learning stages of making 3D items so if this required extra assets I'm not quite set yet.) Ideally would want to make a new place so as to not affect the vanilla stuff too much. But ideally would go like so.

      a.) Basically,  there being some sort of large, pretty much empty rundown building, I'm thinking maybe near Westside. Maybe already a crashing place for drug addicts and whores and such. Clear the building out, by any means necessary. Perhaps hire some people on to be your 'staff' (either in a kind of 'steward-in-Skyrim' system where you acquire existing NPCs and get them to look after your shit or some new NPCs, the latter's probably better.) Then put caps into renovating the place.

      b.) Depending on the type of place one wants this to be (this has kind of gone into just 'run a casino' territory) maybe put in some different extensions. Varying from classy to gritty. I'm thinking maybe some really messed up casino owners might want a basement with, erm... some tamed wasteland creatures. Throw some prettier employees down there. People like shows, right? But I figure not everyone's into that, so it'd probably be optional. Maybe have a weird mixture of a lot of things.

      c.) Going around recruiting more people to work for you. If it's drug-heavy, and given the mod it probably is, try to recruit some drug manufacturers. Chefs. Hookers. Bodyguards. Maybe there's nicer, relatively legal options for recruiting these people. Maybe there's options where you threaten them into it, or pull the same shit that Gomorrah does.

      d.) Obviously the main quest line would be setting the place up and getting it ready to just watch the caps roll in. Probably some side things, though. Maybe an employee tries to run off with some money and you hunt them down. Or one of your higher ups, maybe even the person hired first, decides they want to be the boss and try to take over.

 

Side note. Because I'm a nerd for this kind of detail, I'd probably like to if possible throw in a few little dialogue paths/quest options that relate to the Black Widow/Chersomething Femme/Confirmed Bachelor/Lady Killer set of perks, just because it's a nice detail and I prefer it to chucking all preferences out the window. (And I understand why, but generally most of the content is geared towards either dominate males or submissive females and I'd be all about flipping some of that and mixing it up a bit.) Maybe also some other dialogue options, like being able to scare off some rivals without a fight with the Terrifying Presence perk. Or utilizing the perks that came with... I think the base version of Sexout? Or Resources. One or the other.

Ambitious? Probably far too much so, but hey can't hurt to put it out there.

 

Now I have a question, and it's a fairly simple one.

 

As someone who hasn't modded outside of occasionally placing a container in the world or tweaking small things, I was wondering if anyone knew any good places for tutorials that would be relevant to quests, Sexout and making a kind of 'people approaching under certain circumstances with particular dialogue' thing, kind of like in Tryouts. I know there is the GECK site/wiki for some of this stuff, but any good videos, in particular, would do wonders because I learn quicker with videos than text. Barring that, just sort of a 'keywords I should look up' when looking up how to code the sexout stuff into a quest would be great, because god knows this sort of thing isn't my strong point.

 

Not being able to help in that regard, or not wanting to, is fine though.

There's actually a whole bunch of GECK tutorials out there, but I can't speak to their quality. If they're anything like, well, anything else, it'll probably be a coin flip as to whether something you find is actually worth watching or just crap. It might be possible for someone here to make you a video, though I don't know if anyone actually will, but most of the stuff you're talking about is actually very simple, it's just that the GECK isn't the most intuitive thing so, starting out, it can be incredibly confusing.

 

The Sexout API is here and contains instructions on how to actually get Sexout to do something, from the most basic call to some really fancy stuff. Really, your best bet for getting help with something is to just ask. You can also try to do what I do a lot, which is be a dirty thief; open up an existing Sexout plugin that does something you want, poke around until you find out how it does that, and then work that method into your own mod. That's a little difficult for new modders, though, as once you start getting into the more complicated tasks you need some knowledge as to how the GECK and the game work to actually track those things down.

 

As to the questions you specifically asked, how a people approaching thing works is dependant upon what the certain circumstances are. If you just want random NPCs to approach you need to do one thing, if you want specific NPCs it's a different method.

I don't think I need anyone to make a video, I wouldn't want to put anyone through that much trouble. I'll just have a look at existing tutorials and hope they're good ones. Hopefully I'll be able to grasp it (I do have a tiny bit of experience with this stuff through classes, and some of it seems similar to what I learned, but I also kinda failed parts of those classes so...)

 

Thanks so much for linking me to the API! I had no idea where people were grabbing the instructions (I just kept ending up at the installation instructions instead) so that on its own is a great help.

 

I was intending for probably random NPCs in the case of approaches, though perhaps with an option to make it karma/faction specific (I mean, doesn't make much sense for the nicest people in the wasteland to be taking advantage of a drunk courier, y'know?) Maybe specific ones when it comes to quests.

For general scripting help, you can't go wrong with Cipscis' tutorials, here: http://www.cipscis.com/fallout/tutorials/beginners.aspx

 

The GECK videos from Beth for Fallout 3 are still relevant to FNV as well, since basically nothing has changed (or not enough for it not to be helpful).

 

As far as Sexout goes, using the API and zippy's suggested method of checking out other mods is what you want to do. Though that is going to be much easier if you at least know your way around a little in the GECK.

Thank you so much! I only really know my way around the GECK to the extent of putting bodies and bits from other races into custom races, and occasionally muddling with items. These tutorials look really good, though, and it's so appreciated. Once I get some nearly-done projects out of the way I'll take a proper look at everything, but thanks for being so helpful. : )
