Chinese user selling SexLab mods for money

Recommended Posts

This affects many of the modders here and I feel it fair you know what's going on. Some of you may not care what is done with your mods, some of you will, in either case it's something you should probably know of.

Recently a Chinese 3DM moderator has begun selling a package of SexLab mods in the online marketplace Taobao, where they have been rebranded and billed as their original work under the name "柠珞LOVE实验室" or "Ning Lou Love Lab" Through an intermediary I sent a letter to the 3DM moderators expressing my distaste in this asking them to remove it and halt the sale. The ad post on 3DM was removed for awhile after some arguing, however the Taobao purchase pages remained up. Anybody who brought this issue up, also had their posts removed and accounts banned.

A few weeks pass and the post has returned on 3DM revised to now mention SexLab and claim it has signed permission of all the original authors of each SexLab mod included and linking back to the Taobao sale pages once again (which are unaltered and still passes it off as their own work.) I've also been shown a screencap of a private message from the the seller 柠珞, the translation of which effectively breaks down to "If the modders dare come and make trouble, delete their post and ban them. I will fucking ignore them."

I have tried to resolve this as best I can, however I have failed to get through to them on my own however my attempts to resolve it have fallen flat on my own, so if this offends you either as a user or creator of one of the mods included in this package being sold, I ask you to make it known.

It is unfortunate, however as staff of one of the largest Chinese modding communities largest sites, their continued support and inaction on this reflects badly on the Chinese modding community as a whole. This however is NOT a condemnation of the Chinese modding community, they have done a lot of great work, this is only brought to my attention due to the many Chinese users who have private messaged me informing me of their dislike of this and asking my help in stopping them from continuing to do this.

The current primary link for this is at http://bbs.3dmgame.com/thread-4214789-1-1.html

I will not link the purchasing page links, for obvious reasons, they can be found in the ad thread near the bottom of the first post however as the blue, red, and yellow text buttons.

Since 3DM is censoring any discussion on the matter, here is a link to a Baidu post on the matter: http://tieba.baidu.com/p/3172299302?pn=1

The mods currently being sold include:

  • SexLab Framework
  • FNIS + FNIS Creatures

EDIT:

What I would like to encourage and suggest. Is that any Chinese community members able to provide quality translations, do so and offer the translations to the original mod creators so that they can include the translation with the official free download. The easier it is for the community to get up to date translations of the mods, the less appeal there is for somebody to pay for it.

If any modders are unsure as to how to provide translation files in their mod, it is a relatively simple process and I'll happily assist them in figuring out how to setup script and string translation files for all supported languages.

It's sad that we have to live in a world were things like this happen.

The saddest part is that they will probably get away with it with little to no punishment.

Ironically, this made me kind of depressed after I just got back from a family trip to Vegas like around midnight and I see this. Meh...

But it doesn't seems like there's any restriction in downloading it on the page :/

An old version with fewer options and packed in advertisements, and only added recently after the initial wave of complaints from users. The up to date, full featured package and tech support on using it all require buying it. Searching the Taobao marketplace page they are also given no such option and never made aware such an option even exists. And even still the "free" version remains rebranded away from their original authors.

The store front part doesn't sound like something you can take up with the forum, taobao is the one hosting the "sales page" right?

As for the credits....well fuck

And ether people aren't talking about it/know about it recently or they are doing a good job cleaning up any discussion. All the latest pages are just people typing in one liners and emoticon.

If they are selling the stuff why not get Bethesda Softworks involved and let them take action against them since all most everything used to make the mods are made by them or was made by using their software. I know they stepped in and made the author of that vampire mod for oblivion and forced them stop selling it or face legal action from them.

humm.. A counterattack could be used, posting on the Chineses forums true links about loverslab with the flashy free-mods

The Chinese would see that need not pay and the consequence would weaken the User who is selling

this is just an simple idea

No nothing to be really done about the storefront, I doubt they'd give a rats ass about any of this so long as they are getting their cut of sales. Which is why I more or less dropped the issue after 3DM removed the original advertisement post to the store page (which had no such free option at the time) Now it's been reposted however, and is attempting to pass itself off as more "legitimate" by inserting the word sexlab in a couple places and claiming to have permission from the authors (which it assuredly does not) while keeping it's rebranding under a new name and offering a limited outdated version with advertisements.

Free version or not, they are still offering paid versions as well and the moderators are more or less supporting him now. Any attempts to bring up a discussion on it result in removal and a ban.

I still think that just giving Bethesda a heads up about someone selling Skyrim mods is the best action. Bethesda has far more power to throw about.

I'm sure there are people at Bethesda  who are well aware of LoversLab and/or SexLab, but I'd rather not draw their attention and stay out of their ongoing thoughts all the same. Considering the mod's pornographic content and their internal policy on such. I doubt they'd have much course of action against a Chinese marketplace in any case.

My worry is bringing Bethesda in might shine undesirable light on lovers lab. I don't want them deciding to get rid of us to get rid of that problem.

I confess a lack of real knowledge of these things, though. And of course find what they are doing despicable. I respect the time the modders spend on these mods, appreciate it, and believe the more than deserve credit.

Edit: Crossposted with Ashal.

Seriously what the fuck? And i see some users here whining about permission problems and other minor crap.

Now that there... holy shit.

Getting Beth involved is a good idea, up to a certain point.

Hit me if i'm wrong but i think LL shouldn't get involved on a scale that large in this.  If it isn't already too late that is.

The enforcement of copyrights and IPs has ever been free and loose in China. From knock-off Rolex to rebrand iPhones. I don't even think a call from a Bethesda lawyer will sway them. Plus this is SexLab we're talking about so even less incentive to take action. But there are quite a number of non sex mods packaged together. Anyone inform Bethesda? Interested to see what happens.

If anyone's dumb enough to just buy mods that they could get for free with a simple search on google, they kind of deserve getting fucked in the ass, I mean just saying y'know.

Yeah yeah, it's obviously dishonest as hell and really disgusting too, but seriously, the mods themselves are for free on the same website, who the hell if not a total idiot would instead choose to buy them ?

EDIT : Yeah, just read the whole page again and realized there was more to it, like them drawing the risk of getting axe'd by Bethesda for both their sorry asses and LL's too ... Is it a real thing ? I mean, would LoversLab get blamed for mods being sold by people having no real relation to it ? I know I've seen some people selling mods who came from the Nexus yet I've never heard of any kind of problems with Bethesda, apart from the usual warnings they gave back in 2011/12.

Well what should the users here do now? Stop modding and keep everything to themselves?

I think the question is more like how to inform bethesda.

I mean you can't just go on the forums there and paste everything.

Really nothing to be done. I doubt Beth will get involve, and it is probably better that they don't.

Users overseas will be happy as long as they get to get it for free which they have the option to do so, it'll be unlikely they will cause any trouble for the uploader

Edit:

Sorry but that is a Korean site, not a Chinese site.  Please update the topic.

3DM? It is totally a Chinese site

I doubt that legal threats are gonna impress anyone. Besides, we're better off being ignored by Beth entirely.

I think Karmacode's got the right idea: we've got the latest, up-to-datest mods & for free to boot. Maybe we should advertize that. Can't beat the real thing.

The translated versions being sold are specifically simplified Chinese, and 3DM is a Chinese site.
