Lack of story / quest based mods...

I was looking around for some story or quest based mods for skyrim, there don't seem to be that many. There are a lot of feature mods and armor mods, like devious devices and pregnancy bodies, and occasionally you'll see something new that sort of skims the surface of what you're looking for.

 

For example I thought the estrus chaurus mod was really cool, and held high expectations for what was going to be released in future updates. However in the end it didn't feel like a whole lot more than just a pregnancy mod that had negative effects because of the lack of story or quest implementation. 

 

I also spent some time looking for some story based player enslavement mods, and as some other mods authors have mentioned, most involve sitting around on your bum waiting for the PC to get raped. 

 

Immersion is what makes skyrim such a great place, so what's up with the lack of story mods here in LL? I'm not complaining, I know its hard work getting this stuff to work in the first place, I'm just curious. 

 

Slave town shows great potential and I'm excited to see where that goes, I appreciate everyone's work and I would be completely cool with writing some story quests at a mod authors request. My major is in networking so I'm not a writing expert by any means, just figured I should find a way to help out if I'm going to start throwing out new ideas.

Well if you mean adult story quest mods I was actually trying at one point but no one could actually give clear EASY instructions on how to manipulate sexlab via script (And no ashal and skyrimll those were not clear and easy to a novice!!!! hehe)

 

If you mean story ones in general partly its because LL Doesn't have the capacity to host too big of files though I do have threads for DB 1 and 2

Unfortunately due to size nexus gets to rake in all the cash on a lot of the larger mods but even then there are not a lot of story ones.

I am at about 18 hours of fully voiced content on a entire new worldspace for Discworld and I have been working on it since mid Jan, nonstop

It is a time sink, some people working on 5 hours of content take a whole year just due to real life issues etc

 

 

The funny thing is is I actually have a handful of VA's who are willing to do adult based mods, I just A: cant do it if I cant figure out how to use the framework correctly and B: Won't do it if I can understand the framework correctly and it take 57 lines of code to play one specific animation set

Time is probably the biggest enemy to story/quest mods

For short anwer creation of sophisticated story based mod takes a lot of time and effort.

There is several truely amaizing mods in development - but you will have to wait couple of months for them to be finished (or at least more complete).

 

Keep in mind that making such mod require that one have to spent dozen of hours learning how to mod this game first and then likely hundreds of hours at creating mod itself.

And its not a job - its a hobby. You wont get paid a single cent.

Not only that but there is a certain expectation nowadays, a lot of people won't even look at a quests mod if it's not well voice acted which is probably why a lot of modders abandon their story/quest mods in early WIP stages. Have fun trying to find ~5-20 decent voice actors (depending on the size of the mod) that have the necessary equipment, talent and are willing to voice your stuff in their free time.

I still have no idea how the guys of Interesting NPCs pulled that off.

Whats sad is making a Quest into a skyrim mod is not walk in a park.

if it was as simple as renaming a weapon in skyrim, then i could guarantee you they'd be more quest mods then there is body mods.

just the fact that its so amazingly easy to come up with a story in some quests, im suprised barely any mods provide back-story on the Armour/Weapons/House Etc

yeah some mods provide back-story. but why create a mod with kind of a not so like a purpose? (lol)

ok example, lets say someone made dibella as a npc and you can fuck her

then in reality shes just a mindless npc with one dialogue and that is to fucker her

NOW with the mind,(specially with mine, i mean come on i go on forever)

i turn your simple 1 dialogue dibella fuck slave into a interesting story

"Dibella has looked upon those who seek romance and those whos lives are full of lust, but being the goddess of beauty and seeing all these people doing such gorgeous acts, Dibella must have a taste of it. SHE HAS now travelled the winters of Skyrim to experience such wonderful pleasures, but no no no. she cannot do this alone. she requires help from a being that is powerful enough to please a Daedra. maybe? the Dragonborn perhaps?

I am trying my hand at one here, but it will be some time, to many things I have to understand better.

 

I have built my new world with forest, snowy mountains, grassland, and forest, and I guess the NavMesh on the world map is about 80% done now [All World Navmeshes have to be hand done the auto Worldmap NavMesh is screwed] + [The dungeon auto navMap is not much better], I have built 5 dungeons, and village, but am still adding to the village.

 

   I hope over time I can get something together. But it will be awhile.

 

The jump from Oblivion to skyrim is daunting to me in many area's. And the Papyrus is still hammering me, some of the features are hard for me to grasp. But as far as basic sex animations with sexlab, I have managed to do some of those, but I need a lot of refinement in that area.

 

  Problem is so many things have already been done, that I am not sure what other than quest line I can add that will have any originality to it.

I prefer story driven mods  or at least ones that give me an opportunity to role play a bit. The more the better, adult or not.

 

 

Story based mods take a lot of work, even if you don't add any new locations you still have dialogue and scenes to plan and build, scripts to write and testing it all takes even longer. I have been adding more story based content to Captured Dreams as I have expanded the mod. Currently I have a few scenes and such along with a good amount of dialogue with somewhere between 500 and 600 lines for npc's. The expansion I am starting on now will greatly expand on that and add the start of a longer story based quest with it. I believe currently there are 14 npc's and I have about 20 to be added. I have learned most everything as I have gone, scripting was probably the hardest to learn but I have enjoyed working on it and playing with it as well.

I may be one of the few then that's completely fine with just reading the text on something, one of my favorite adult mods is Sexout Breeder. Pretty buggy but the story was really good and it's something that I still get around to playing.

 

I could volunteer as a voice actor, I could probably manage a few different voices, I own a really nice microphone so that shouldn't be an issue. 

 

again if modders need help from the community why don't they ask?

I just wanted to echo this point. I can make quests, but I can't figure out how to call an animation. Sexlab is beautifully documented, but it doesn't tell me (not a programmer, but not an idiot either) how to get an animation in the game. Maybe this is a factor in the relative dearth of mods in this area? How about a reeeeeally simple dialogue-based quest:

 

10 Player speaks to NPC: Let's have sex.

20 NPC to player: Sounds good!

30 Run animation.

 

Is it so complex that a simple step-by-step explanation just can't be done? :(

 

P.S. About VAs -- I'm perfectly happy to read my way through a quest. Especially if the alternative is listening to a voice that annoys the shit out of me. :P

People that want to help aren't the matter, it's people that are actually able to help are scarce. Good voice actors that 1) work for free and 2) want to voice an adult mod are even more rare. There is some kind of stigma following adult mods, most people don't want to be openly involved in that kind of stuff. Most people would rather say "oh yeah I did the voice for that cool villain that threatens to destroy the world" than "oh yeah I did the voice for that one girl/guy in that porn mod and all I can remember is that I had to say a lot about big dicks, tight vaginas and cum in my butt".

 

Which leads me to my other point. I don't know about you guys, but I loathe the dialogue in adult mods. They may be adult by nature because sex, but that doesn't mean they handle the topic in a mature way. In fact, I haven't really seen anyone handling the topic in a way that doesn't make me cringe. Like, a lot. Maybe I'm alone on this, but I like to think that this isn't the case and all the porn slang taken staight off a, well, porn flick doesn't help the fact that apparently many people don't want to get associated with sex mods.

If you want a simple example of call to SexLab based on dialogues, feel free to take a look at the source of the relationships dialogues in SexLab Stories. I am in the process of moving that side of Stories into its own mod, but the code will remain dormant in Stories for the next few versions for troubleshooting purposes.

I try to keep away from most language like that, I'd rather have somewhat intelligent dialogue. I will admit though, my dialogue is not great and I was never good at creative writing. I would rather just listen to the sounds provided by SexLab than any sort of dialogue during sex, it seems less artificial or forced.

You know, I'm pretty sure the voice acting argument is being overused here, especially considering how most of LL's community doesn't really care about it. There's literally no (Except Amorous Adventures I guess) mod with voices, sex voices aside, and I've yet to see anyone complain. Hell, one of the most popular adult mod (Dark Investigation) is constantly post-poned because the author is always looking for voice actors. And it's not exactly immersive either : vanilla npc's would completely change their voice, or new ones would probably sound off, the player being used to the vanilla voices.

 

I think it's a simple matter of lack of ideas, as well as mostly motivation from mod creators. A quest mod is cool and all, but if you're the one that made it, you kinda know what's gonna happen. So while that guy who just logged on LL, saw a new quest mod and spent the rest of the day going through it, the mod creator, on the other hand, doesn't get to play with it. He already knows what's gonna happen. But making a framework that's adds random rape chance to certain things, now that's interesting, because even he doesn't know when it'll happen, only that it will.

 

In the end, I think it'd be great for someone to step-up and make such quests. We've got Veladarius here with CD,as well as Skyrimll and Stobor, (and many others) and they're all making pretty great mods. Notice how most of their mods are rather open, with different routes and ways to go through, they're modding for us, but also themselves. I'm pretty sure they play with their mods a lot, and a straight-forward story following a single plot won't cut it, since that would not necessarily be as fun for the creator as it would for the player.

Think the same, we need more quest based mods. The tits looks good, the asses looks goods, penis yes rise up ... but all the visual gets boring after a while. If you are a modder an really want to be remember write a good quest story.

 

I still remember Leasirue Suit Larry 1 from the 80's. lol.

 

The quest  story glue ever thing , can have sex when it is need it, can have slavery when is need it. Can have drama or visceral decisions like sacrifice Lydia or kill ysolda. The quest make memorable the game , not the visuals or the music.

All this talk got me to download the newest version of Maids II. It has been updated since I last played it so I am looking forward to it. I just happen to have a brand new character with a new-to-me body type (Demonica/Lilith) to run through it, too. I am kind of excited to play it actually. :lol:
