Body_Slide_for_Dummies.png

INTRO:
I made this thread to sort of neatly compile all the data/information over in the BodySlide Conversion Thread into a neat little guide to encourage more of you to use BodySlide and Outfit Studio correctly!

The following link is all you need for most of these tutorials, it also contains official tutorials and FAQ on the main page.
BodySlide 2 and Outfit Studio

Fun Fact:

I converted this guide onto the nexus to help out users there as well, and thanks to cell's benevolence has kindly linked that in the main guide, so in a way I'm linking my guide to my guide? Mind = Blown o.0

TERMINOLOGY:
Read this section if you are unfamiliar with some terms in the guides. More advanced users can skip.

BodySlide (BS)
The actual tool that builds your customized bodies and outfits.
It comes with only CBBE based body sets, however you can create your own morphs for any body type by using Outfit Studio or a 3D modelling program of your choice.

Outfit Studio (OS)
The tool included with BodySlide used to edit outfit meshes. It can be used for every Skyrim body type available and most other meshes.
Disclaimer: Different meshes will give you different results. Some have to be prepared for usage in Outfit Studio first.

Reference Body
In Outfit Studio, a reference body refers to the body you would like to tailor your outfit to or copy bone weights from.
This can be a pre-made slider set from an *.xml file, in which case it will have sliders/morphs associated with it.
Or it can be a *.nif shape, in which case it will not have sliders/morphs.

Conversion Reference/Set
A reference body with attached sliders that transforms it from one body type to another.
Outfit Studio ships with such for the most used ones.

Custom Body
An unofficial term I have come up with to describe body shapes that do not have a built in conversion reference.
Examples: UNPBO, Litheria, CBBE3M, CBBEMangaBody.

BodySlide Preset
Also sometimes called just a preset, this refers to the slider values that you defined yourself using the BodySlide tool and
clicked 'Save Preset' button. The *.xml files can be found and/or should be saved under "CalienteTools\BodySlide\SliderPresets".

Slider Set
This term refers to the sliders that show up on the right hand of the screen in Outfit Studio, or the main tools used in BodySlide.
The data for these can be found under "CalienteTools\BodySlide\ShapeData\<Outfit Name>".
It contains a base *.nif file on which the morphs from the slider data as *.bsd files are applied.

Body Type
The name of your specific female body. If you have a custom generated BodySlide body, then this usually refers to the preset name you made for it.
Examples are:
- CBBE
- SevenBase
- UNP
- UNPB
- Vanilla (included in default Skyrim)

Highlight/Edit Slider
There is a distinct difference of "Highlight/edit the slider" and "move/set the slider".
The latter is not an editable configuration, while the former allows you to edit the morph for that slider at various different percentage values.
You edit a slider when it is highlighted in purple. This temporarily stores the changes made, and when the project is saved, the morph is permanently stored in a *.bsd file for that particular slider and shape.

Outfit Group (Group Name)
The name of the *.xml file contained in "CalienteTools\BodySlide\SliderGroups" that links outfits together in groups.
This is important, because it is what is used to filter/organize your outfit slider sets, as well as your body presets and what is built with the batch build feature.

Super Group
Refers to a group name that acts as a keyword for presets to be applied to newly made outfits in BodySlide.

Zaps
Refers to a type of "slider" data (it's not really a slider) that removes parts of the mesh that are influenced by it when activated with the check box.
In Outfit Studio, this will look like it only moves the parts. But in BodySlide, if the zap flag is set, it will remove them instead.

GUIDE 0: Preparing meshes for Outfit Studio: (Not needed for newest version of Bodyslide)

This guide will teach you how to make sure your *.nif files are compatible with Outfit Studio and prepare them for use in it.

Step 1:
Download and install NifSkope.

Step 2:
Open your mesh *.nif file in NifSkope.

3lyWU2s.gif

Step 3:
Click the arrow next to the NiNode (root node) to expand the column on the right.

Step 4:
Expand all the NiTriShape branches.

qABLOGS.gif

Step 5:
Check to make sure there are NO NiSkinInstance branches.
A. If there aren't any, proceed to the next step.
B. If there are, right-click those branches and choose "Block -> Convert -> BSDismemberSkinInstance".

a8bRVxA.gif

Step 6:
If you had to convert NiSkinInstance branches to BSDismemberSkinInstance branches, you will need to do the following:
A. At the top, Hit "Spells" -> "Batch" -> "Make All Skin Partitions".
B. Uncheck "Stripify Triangles" and hit "OK".

yZNXnz5.gif

Step 7: Make sure there are no NiTriStrips branches.
A. If there aren't any, proceed to the next step.
B. If there are, right-click them and choose "Mesh -> Triangulate".

mYMqewl.gif

Step 8:
"File -> Save As" and save the mesh appropriately:

GUIDE 1: Any Outfit -> BodySlide (Custom Body):

This guide will teach you how to do a conversion from any non-standard body that doesn't have a conversion reference to BodySlide.
For the purposes of this guide I will be using an armor from Alan's BBP pack and convert it to the CBBE BodySlide.
Some of the spoiler images will be .gifs with slightly long delay times so you can see the whole step.

Step 1:
Hit "File -> New Project" (or click the new project button) and pick "CBBE Body" as your reference body.
The .gif below still has the old naming in it.

7zMtXtJ.jpg

Step 2:
A. Choose an outfit name (name that appears in BodySlide). Make it somewhat descriptive!
B. Under "Load from .nif file", navigate to your outfit's mesh that ends with: "_1.nif" (high weight variant).

19uB19j.jpg

Step 3:
Hit "Finish" and your screen should look something like this:

rnDfxtC.jpg

Note:
If your outfit comes out all grey with no textures, then that means the outfit's textures are packed within a .bsa file and you will need to extract it (or they're simply non-existent).
A separate link/guide on how to do that will be made available.

Note 2:
If your outfit comes out completely off or separated from the body, then chances are the mesh has offsets that are incompatible with Outfit Studio
and you'll have to realign it manually or use NifSkope/Blender/3DSmax the old fashioned way.

Step 4:
Depending on your mesh, you may have an imported body in your outfit. If so, delete it.
To check if this step is applicable click the eye button next to reference shape until it's closed. If there is still a body showing then you have an imported body to get rid of!

In this example screenshot, I've turned the reference body invisible, but there's still a body showing!
cCkXjdt.jpg

Step 5:
To find the mesh you need to delete, keep clicking on the eye buttons next to each part of the mesh until the body disappears.
Once you find out which mesh it is, right-click on it and hit "Delete Shape" (Shortcut Ctrl+Del).

This...
BXnOiW5.jpg

Should result in this...
l6Gsvqb.jpg

Step 6:
A. Now for the real editing part. Go back to the base shape at the top of your shape list and re-enable it until the eye is open again.
B. Use the sliders on the right-hand side to match the reference body as closely as you can to the outfit.
Do not be afraid if the body breaks through certain parts of the outfit, this will be fixed at a later step. For now focus on closely matching the reference body's breast, butt, legs and shoulder areas.

The MORE time you put into doing this step correctly, the BETTER quality your final conversion will be, as well as saving you a headache in the later steps.

NOTE:
I cannot stress how important this step is in determining the quality of your conversion. Do not be afraid to type manually into the slider percentage box on the far right.
Experiment with negative values and don't be afraid to go over 100% if necessary!

JhkRVup.gif

Step 7:
Once you've gotten the reference body to match the outfit as closely as you can, go to "File -> Make Conversion Reference", name the slider whatever you want and hit "OK".

NbtL55s.jpg

Step 8:
Now fix any of the remaining clipping using the brush tools.
Make sure that you have the shape you want to use the brush on highlighted on the right-hand side!

T0Tz67P.gif

Step 9:
Once all clipping issues have been fixed, go to "Slider -> Conform All".

xzLLiz3.jpg

NOTE:
You can disable the "Edit Connected Only" mode to edit multiple parts of the same shape that are connected to each other.
You can also disable the X-Mirror to edit only one side of the mesh.

I5igzN6.jpg

Step 10:
HIGHLIGHT the one slider by clicking the pencil button and check again for clipping at the high weight.
If there is, fix it by using the brushes again (with the slider still being highlighted).

NByXLh7.jpg

Step 11:
Disable the highlight on the slider by clicking the pencil button, then MOVE the slider over to 100%.

P4zZ3LI.jpg

Step 12:
Hit "Slider -> Set Base Shape".

6dNwCZi.gif

Step 13:
Go to "File -> Load Reference" and choose "CBBE Body"!

c02cuJZ.jpg

NOTE:
If you choose "CBBE Body", you will not be able to add (T)BBP/HDT to an outfit! In order to do this you will need to choose CBBE Body BBP, TBBP or HDT instead.

Step 14:
Double check clipping. If all good, then go to "Slider -> Conform All".

6SPRWti.jpg

(Optional) Step 15:
For improved quality morphs, highlight sliders (pencil button) to edit the morph that is applied to the currently selected shape.
This is to release QUALITY work, but can be somewhat time consuming!

ZCxtVcn.gif

NOTE:
If you plan to make this conversion for yourself and not to be shared with others and you already have your own custom BodySlide preset,
a separate guide will be made to show you how to load your preset into Outfit Studio, so that you can fix clipping for just your body preset.

(Optional) Step 16:
Copying (T)BPP/HDT or other bone weights:
A. Click the "Bones" tab to the right.
B. Depending on what you're trying to add ((T)BBP/HDT), CTRL+Click the bones of the following you need:
NPC L Breast, NPC L Breast01, NPC L Butt, NPC R Breast, NPC R Breast01, NPC R Butt and/or NPC Belly.
C. Hit "Shape -> Copy Selected Weights".
D. Repeat step C for each shape of the mesh shown in the shapes tab (highlight them on the right-hand side).

y4TQka7.jpg

NOTE:
If the outfit was made for a completely different body than the one you converted it to, it is recommended to copy ALL bone weights so they will match the new body.

Step 17:
When the outfit is done and you've double checked your sliders, hit "File -> Save As..." and follow the tooltip prompts for each field carefully!
The .gif below still has the old dialog in it, but the functionality stays the same.

vwlh7rc.gif

NOTE:
Don't worry though, if you mess up a name or have a typo in this step, you can just manually edit it in your favorite text editor later on, as the data is stored in an *.xml file.

GUIDE 2: Loading a BodySlide Preset into Outfit Studio:

This is a slightly more advanced guide to get your BodySlide-made preset to show up in Outfit Studio, so you can tailor your outfit mesh/slider morphs to it.
If you don't understand what the last sentence meant, then skip this guide, or read the terminology section.

In this guide I assume you already have a preset made and will not go over how to make one.
It is meant to be followed AFTER guide 1, and you have successfully created your armor in Outfit Studio and wish to fix clipping for your specific body preset.

Step 1:
In Outfit Studio, create or load a project with the outfit you want to see your preset on.

NOTE:
Make sure you delete the base body imported with your outfit *.nif!

Step 2:
Go to "Slider -> Load Slider Preset", choose your slider preset from the drop down menu and hit "OK".

d2M2orI.gif

GUIDE 3: Convert/Edit any outfit mesh (any body type):

This guide is here to show you how Outfit Studio can edit meshes to eliminate clipping issues with ANY female body type, be it a BodySlide generated one, or a custom Blender/3dsmax generated one.

Step 1: Start a new project in Outfit Studio. If you have an existing BodySlide project saved already, you can load that instead and skip step 1.
A. Load YOUR CURRENT female body from this location: "Data\meshes\actors\character\character assets\femalebody_1.nif".
B. Load your outfit mesh that ends with "_1.nif".
C. Hit "Finish".

Step_1_combined.gif

Step 2:
Delete the imported body from the outfit if it has one!

Step_2_combined.gif

Step 3:
Use the brush tools to fix clipping (make sure the shape that you're editing is selected on the right-hand side!).

Step_3_combined.gif

Step 4:
Once all clipping has been fixed to your liking, and if your outfit came with a body that you previously deleted, go ahead and copy the reference body into the outfit!
A. Right-click BaseShape -> Duplicate Shape.
B. Name it something useful like "Body" and hit OK.

Step_4.jpg

Step 5: (Optional)

Step_5_combined.gif

Step 6:
Go to "File -> Export Current -> Export Nif" and OVERWRITE your .nif (basically click on the .nif you loaded in the beginning and save).

Step_5_combined.gif

Step 7:
Repeat this guide, except now load your femalebody_0.nif as a reference and outfit_0.nif as your outfit mesh (only needed if clipping is on low weight as well).

Guide 4: Tweak BodySlide/Outfit Studio:

This guide is here to show you how to tweak your BodySlide/Outfit Studio program according to your own workflow.
The goal is to make these changes so you can speed up your conversion process instead of hunting down files for reference bodies, etc...

Step 1:
Open your Config.xml from "Data\CalienteTools\BodySlide".

Step_1.jpg

Step 2:
Read the comments! That should explain what everything does completely.

Step 3:
To add reference shapes or your own custom conversion references as templates, pay attention to highlighted section in the image below.

Step_3.jpg

Step 4:
Change the default reference skeleton to whatever skeleton you need. Outfit Studio's default is Groovtama's XPMS Extended 2+.
Think twice before doing this, as we want outfits to be somewhat consistent with the skeleton they've been rigged with!
A. Copy the skeleton *.nif file you want OS to use. The one used by the game is normally found in "Data\meshes\actors\character\character assets female".
B. Place the skeleton into "Data\CalienteTools\BodySlide\res".
C. Rename the skeleton something else, e.g. "skeleton_female_custom.nif".
D. Open up the Config.xml and change the following code to match the name of the new skeleton file you placed.

<Anim>
    <DefaultSkeletonReference>res\skeleton_female_custom.nif</DefaultSkeletonReference>
</Anim>

GUIDE 5: Outfit Studio's "Set Textures" feature:

This guide goes over how to manually set textures in Outfit Studio.
It also incorporates a speed guide on converting armors that have multiple meshes that are the same (in terms of vertices/shape), but have different textures.

The speed guide is used so that you only need to convert the armor once to BodySlide, edit the texture paths in Outfit Studio and use the "Save As" function to replicate the numerous similar meshes with different textures.
We assume that you've read at least some of the previous guides and are familiar with the terminologies section.

Step 1:
Right click the part of your mesh that has different available textures.

Step_1.jpg

(Optional) Step 2:
PREVIEW TEXTURES: Click "Browse" to search through your texture folder and find the alternate texture file, then hit Open -> OK to view the texture in Outfit Studio.

Step_2_combined.gif

Step 3:
SET TEXTURES: This step is if you want to actually set the textures for the mesh before you save and not just preview them.
A. Right-click a shape -> "Set Textures"
B. In the given fields, you can edit the Diffuse (Color), as well as Specular and Normal maps by typing in the filepath (relative to "Data" folder).

Step_3.jpg

GUIDE 6: Setting up BodySlide presets to show up on your outfit:
DISCLAIMER: This method should only be used for testing your own preset with the conversion, for a QUALITY release, please see guide 9.

Contrary to most other guides, this is purely a BodySlide tutorial.
It will teach you how to setup your custom-made preset to show up on your outfit in BodySlide so you can correctly preview it.
There are two ways to do this, this guide will go over the manual way, and the BodySlide way will be added later.

Step 1:
Open up your <preset_name>.xml found in "Data\CalienteTools\BodySlide\SliderPresets".

Step_1.jpg

Step 2:
Add the following code in the indicated space:

<Group name="OUTFIT GROUP NAME GOES HERE" />

NOTE:
Hopefully you realize that the above part in quotes is supposed to be replaced with your outfit mesh's SliderGroup name.
Read the terminologies section if you don't know what that is.

Step_2_combined.gif

Guide 7: Creating your own sliders for an outfit:

This guide will show you how to create your own customized sliders for a specific outfit.
Useful for the more advanced users out there that want even more customization options.

NOTE:
While creating a slider takes only 5-10 minutes, perfecting it may take considerably longer and require some knowledge of 3D modelling applications, as Outfit Studio itself can be somewhat limited.
Of course this is all subjective to your own tastes.

Step 1:
Hit "File -> Load Outfit" and choose <your_female_body>.nif

Step_1_combined.gif

Step 2:
Hit "Slider -> New Slider" and name the new slider appropriately.

Step2_combined.gif

Step 3:
Highlight your new slider (pencil button).

Step_3.jpg

Step 4:
Edit the shape with brushes.

Step_4_combined.gif

(Optional) Step 5:
If you are an advanced user and can accurately edit models in a 3D Program (Blender/3dsmax, whatever exports .obj files),
then you can actually import the .obj file as slider data.

A. Edit the mesh WITH THE SAME AMOUNT OF VERTICES in your desired 3D program.
B. Export your edited mesh as an .obj file.
C. Come back to Outfit Studio, hit "Slider -> Import Slider Data -> Import .obj" and select your .obj file.

Sorry no images available, I am a 3D inept, if you are a 3D pro and would like to contribute some pics, please PM them to me and you will be credited.

Step 6:
Unhighlight your new slider (pencil button).

(Optional) Step 7:
Test your new slider by ACTUALLY dragging the slider along. Reset to zero when done.

Step_7c.jpg

Step 8:
Hit "File -> Save As" and follow the tooltips.

(Optional) Step 9:
Transferring reference body sliders to other meshes (requires a text editor).
A. Open up the <reference_body_that_has_the_slider_you_wish_to_transfer>.xml and the <reference_body_you_want_to_add_slider_to>.xml.
B. Copy the sliders you wish, following the code example, and paste the selection into <reference_body_you_want_to_add_slider_to>.xml
C. Copy the slider's *.bsd file into the corresponding ShapeData folder as well. The *.bsd file is referenced in the text you copied over in the last step.

Arms Slider Example:

<Slider name="Arms" invert="true" small="0" big="100">
        <datafile name="Arms" target="BaseShape">Arms.bsd</datafile>
</Slider>

NOTE:
The optional step 9 is only for adding or removing sliders from reference bodies, do not try to add sliders to an outfit mesh this way.

Guide 8: Adding options to your BodySlide outfits (e.g. Zaps):

This guide will allow you to add options for the user to your outfit mesh by removing certain accessories or parts of it through creating a new type of "slider" called a zap.
Zaps are sliders internally, but appear as check boxes in the user interface.

Step 1:
Select the "Mask" tool.

step1.png

Step 2:
The area that gets masked is the one to NOT be zapped (in other words, it will NOT be removed or disappear) when the zap is enabled.

step2_combined.gif

(Optional) Step 3:
If you want the opposite of what you masked to NOT be zapped, hit "Brush -> Invert Mask".

step3.png

Step 4:
Select "Slider -> New Zap Slider", name the slider appropriately and hit "OK".

step4_combined.gif

Step 5:
Finish the rest of your conversion, or if completed, hit "File -> Save As" and follow on-screen tooltips to finish.
You can test the new zaps in the BodySlide preview window.

Guide 9: Packaging your BodySlide conversion for release (outfit groups):

This guide is for those of you who want maximum compatibility.
It will teach you how to package your BodySlide conversions to an easy to install Mod Manager archive, as well as a proper way to setup a group for your outfit.

Step 1:
Navigate to your "CalienteTools/BodySlide/SliderGroups" folder.

Step_1.jpg

NOTE:
The above folder path is only for default installations.

Step 2:
Create a new text file and save it with the .xml file extension.

Step 3:
Copy the code template below into your .xml file and change the OUTFIT_NAME_HERE to your outfit's slider set name.
The slider set name is contained within the outfit's *.xml file in the "SliderSets" folder.

<SliderGroups>
    <Group name="ENTER_GROUP_NAME_HERE">
        <Member name="OUTFIT1_NAME_HERE" />
        <Member name="OUTFIT2_NAME_HERE" />
    </Group>

<!-------------------- CBAdvanced supergroup (for presets) ----------------------->
    <Group name="CBAdvanced">
        <Member name="OUTFIT1_NAME_HERE" />
        <Member name="OUTFIT2_NAME_HERE" />
    </Group>
</SliderGroups>

NOTE:
The slider set name DOES NOT EQUAL the file name of the *.xml contained within the SliderSets folder! Open up the *.xml for the outfit's real slider set name. See spoiler for clarification.

Warning_Note_combined.gif

 Step 4:
Now for packaging our (awesome) conversion!
A. Create a folder called "Data" somewhere.
B. Inside "Data", create a folder called "CalienteTools".
C. Inside "CalienteTools", create a folder called "BodySlide".
D. Inside "BodySlide", create the folders "ShapeData", "SliderSets" and "SliderGroups".
E. Copy your respective files into the newly created directories. That is your <slider_set>.xml, <slider_group>.xml and subfolder of ShapeData.
F. (Optional) Create BAIN/FOMOD/MO scripts if you know how to.
G. Make an archive out of your newly created "Data" folder with all of its contents. (7-zip, WinRar, ...).
H. Post it on Skyrim Nexus (be accurate with credits, or your file may be deleted, and make sure to get permission from original author) or on LoversLab.
I. Drop a post HERE to alert users about your new conversion.
J. (Optional) Post some feedback about these tutorials (be it helpful or critical).
K. Convert MOAR, convert until EVERYTHING in SKYRIM is SEXIFIED!

Guide 10: HDT/TBBP Nipple Piercing BodySlide Conversions (Video Only for Now):

This guide is meant for those of you who want to do nipple piercing conversions the easy way!
This is all doable thanks to Vioxsis' hard work so if you see a post from him/her drop a like if this guide helped you!

REQUIREMENTS:
Download HDT Body v1.3+ for the conversion references ;)

NOTE:
Turn on captions, I don't have a good mic (or a good voice).

Guide 11: Transferring sliders via XML editing (WIP):

FAQ:
Q: I think I found a bug in BodySlide/Outfit Studio.
A: Well, first check the official GitHub issues list to see if it's already been identified,
and if it isn't, PM cell here (or ousnius on Nexus) with a description of it.

Q: When I load up my conversion in-game I have these black squares or irregular textures?
A: In Outfit Studio, hit "Shape" and uncheck "Smooth Seam Normals".

Q: I get animation clipping issues on my conversions? (Body clipping through outfit in-game)
Multiple fixes:
1. Go back in OS and create more 'space' between the mesh and the body using the brushes (hint: view in wireframe mode to double check the areas).
2. Create a zap slider and mask the belly area, invert the mask and click "Slider -> New Zap". This will 'hide' the belly underneath the armor so you will not see clipping issues.
3. Re-adjust bone weighting.

Number 1 is fairly easy, number 2 is sort of a hack in my mind, but many armors and such have done this to circumvent weight clipping.
Number 3 is by far the hardest, but could also potentially give the most 'quality' result (or it may not xD).

Q: When I load boots/gloves the feet/hands/mesh is completely off from the body
A: This is a known bug, you can try fixing this in Outfit Studio by hitting "Shape -> Move Shape" to move the ENTIRE shape back onto the body.
Test if it worked by exporting to *.nif and opening in NifSkope and see if it shows up correctly. If not, then you're out of luck and should seek further assistance.

Q: Help! No textures load in Outfit Studio or I have completely black textures!
A: Well, check to make sure your textures are 'loose' and not packed inside a .bsa, this isn't a feature supported yet.
If the textures are loose and you're still not getting any textures or black textures in Outfit Studio, then it's just a bug that others have reported.
See guide 5 for quick fix.[/color]

Q: I loaded my outfit into BodySlide, but I don't see my preset?
A: You have to manually add your outfit to the (super) group the preset was saved in, or edit your created preset so that it links to your outfit.
You can still create the outfit with your BodySlide preset, you just need to navigate to the body that you made the preset for, select the preset,
then type your outfit's slider set name into the "Outfit Filter" and hit batch build.

Q: When I add weights to my outfit mesh and try opening it up in NifSkope, I get a bunch of errors.
A: Please see guide 0, and also make sure that all vertices of it are weighted!

Q: What's that sexy text editor you use? (Okay not really asked but still...)
A: Sublime Text 3

You're a God among men. You don't know how much I wanted a simple guide (I loathe videos/youtube, don't ask why) for that.

Eagerly waiting for your "What's next" section (which will fulfill my needs. i.e.: loading presets).

Also, will this somewhat work for conforming the armors for my custom body? Sorry if it's a stupid question, I'm dumb.

Yup, the Guide 1 should work for your custom body provided you highlighted (pencil button) and checked every slider for clipping.

However if your custom body uses negative percentage values, or over 100% then clipping may still occur, and as you correctly identified you'll have to wait for the guide on how to load presets in Outfit Studio.

And I know your feeling about disliking video guides (I dislike them myself hence the picture format).

EDIT: Sorry in order for you to fix clipping with your actual Body preset you will need to look at Guide 3. Guide 2 will allow you to see the clippings and load the preset within OS but not allow you to successfully edit the mesh.

Updated with Guide 2: Load Presets Experimental guide (Still trying to find a meaningful use for this function besides just checking possible clipping issues)

Updated with a new Terminology section to remove some of the wordiness within the actual guides

Updates the "What's Next Section" with more to-do guides and a possible expansion of the thread to include an Index of all currently Bodyslided Armors.

Edit: Added a poll to see if there is need for a 'Bodyslide Index'.

When you're editing an armor, how can you zoom in? I mean, what are the keys to get closer to the armor when editing?

Good Question, It's the scroll wheel haven't discovered any keyboard shortcuts for that though.

Links to conversions should def be another thread. This one should be solely for tutorials.

That's what I was thinking, would be easier to categorize the comments and such.

But I can see where people are coming from if I renamed the thread something like 'Bodyslide/Outfit Studio Unofficial Knowledgebase' or something like that.

Well, we'll see what happens I guess. Though for now I'll work on the tutorials. Thanks for the input though!

Updated Guide 3 to include detailed optional step of adding TBBP/BBP weights

(It's listed as optional step 5 under that guide, the spoiler image for that one comes up as a thumbnail, unfortunately postimage didn't generate a hotlink version of that image. If someone knows how to make that image show up as a hotlink like the rest of the images I have here I would much appreciate it!)

Updated the Guide 3 image download to reflect above changes.

Forthcoming changes within today:

- Edit Guide 1 TBBP step to include a more detailed .gif explaining how to add weights correctly (WIP)

- Upload Tweak config.xml guide/provide download for tweaked config.xml [DONE]

-Piercing guide (On Hold) , still trying to figure out the weight paint settings for this, might just wait for new version of Bodyslide...

-Add to FAQ [DONE]

-Add to terminologies section [DONE]

From the lack of user feedback I take it that either my guide performs exceptionally well and has no room for improvement, or this thread doesn't have as much need/exposure as I originally thought?

Also regarding Bodyslide 2 conversion links I will look at the poll results Sunday and depending on that as well as user feedback I may or may not rename thread and add the index section by next Monday (1/20/14)

P.S. I hope it's not against the forum rules here to keep making these "Update" bumps, simply doing it so as to increase exposure for new users as it still seems that a few users are posting on other threads asking for a guide to using Bodyslide. (If it is let me know and I'll stop right away :) )

EDIT: Thanks for the feedback was able to add 2 new FAQ's and 1 guide today. Still have lots more detailed guides to make hope you guys can be patient and bear with me in creating these, I only want to release quality work. Also if you follow the thread you'll notice a slight name change this is due my personal dissatisfaction with the previous name I had and to relate that the thread is more serious in nature as well as not to dissuade newer users :)

I'm having a lot of trouble with the textures. I install them with nmm, but when I open the mesh, they have no textures.

Thanks for reminding me, forgot to add that to FAQ.

Check to make sure the mods textures aren't packed into a .bsa archive, if they are then the Outfit Studio will not be able to load the textures as the current version doesn't read .bsa archives yet.

Also some meshes have 'loose' textures installed but outfit studio still doesn't read them.

This is another bug that Cell is aware of and will probably be fixed, for now to fix it yourself you can right click the mesh and choose 'set textures'

and navigate to the textures manually. (I'll add this as a guide and update the "What's Next" list to reflect this)

Also question will be added to FAQ (it's a popular one on the official page xD)

Thanks for the input!

Guide #3 was a godsend for me.  I use the ADEC body (basically the red-headed stepchild of the body replacers it seems :( ) and have had to deal with the clipping issues using the Skyrim Strapons - the front of the strapons were fine, but the strapons disappeared into the ample ass of the ADEC body.  With Guide #3 I was able to adjust the straps, and now they look normal on the ADEC body.  Was also able to modify some of the "devious devices" items, so now I'm able to give that one a try without having to change to a new body.  Many, many thanks for these guides, blabba.  1,000,000 internets for you :D !!!!

[EDIT]I originally said guide #4, but meant guide #3[/EDIT]

Guide 3: Copying selected weights from bones = Body Slide has stopped working

Hmm, could you maybe try posting a screenshot?

Outfit Studio is known to be buggy on some computers with intel graphics chips and Windows 8/8.1

If that's the case, that is the current issue that the bodyslide team has prioritized.

I hope you guys forgive me for not having updated the guides for awhile today.

I had spoken to Cell (ousnius) via pm on nexusmods and he granted me permissions to copy/paste the guide under the Bodyslide 2/Outfit Studio nexus page.

I have done this in hopes for the guide to reach the user's their who keep posting the same questions as well as to help the original mod authors so that they need not waste their time on replies. (and instead focus on updating the program :P )

Anyway LINK

NOTE: The thread here will be first and foremost updated from now on, as well as will keep all it's links and if decided, will contain the added index feature. Wheras the nexus version will NOT.

Updated with Guide 6

Updated FAQ

Added some fun facts :)

Added stuffed_bunny in Credits page and provided a link to his thread where he details many more advanced features of the tools, sorry for not noticing sooner *begs forgiveness*

Also noticed I missed ChronoTrigger as well as some others, will most definitely add you guys in the morning!!! Sorry for the delay!

To do still tonight:

Update terminologies page

Add another guide

Small adjustements/typos to be fixed

Thanks for participating in the poll guys!

With a whopping 40 votes in the "yes, add an index" category it seems to be the favorite.

More details on how I plan on dealing with that as well your last chance for feedback on that topic/to vote tomorrow

For now, I would like to ask YOU for some help.

I do not know enough about all the Non-Standard Bodies out there for Skyrim and so I cannot make my #1 to-do task a possibility.

The person I had that was going to send me a body file for me to use this tutorial on hasn't replied back yet :(

As such all I ask is for someone to post a femalebody_1.nif of a body not currently supported in BodySlide for me to use in my tutorial.

Thanks in advance!

welp, you can try using my bodyslide preset if you want.

also... in both guide 1 and 3, we somehow have to match the reference body to the armor we're converting?
i've been doing this the other way round and it still ends up okayish. 'okayish' because there's still clippings here and there whenever i generate the outfit. not sure if its because i've been doing it wrong...  :s

if that'll shed any light, here how i did it (am converting UNP to CBBE)
- start new project, load UNP to CBBE template, load /nif file
- remove bodyshape that comes with .nif, conform all sliders, click on pencil icon for 'UNPToCBBE', set base shape
- load CBBE body reference, conform all sliders, match ARMOR to REFERENCE BODY, conform again
- start to check and fix clipping on all the sliders via pencil icon
- done tweaking, copy bone weight for all item, save project

- restart bodyslide, create body
- start using

i sometimes get weird results though, like how some parts clip when it didn't show up in outfit studio, and my body preset don't usually go above 100% or below 0%. so im not sure this method is also correct or something...

been using outfit studio for 3 days straight and i still couldnt figure out like a ton of its stuff... and ModOrganizer bouncing the directories around isn't helping at all  :(

Thanks for the offer, but what I mean by a Non-standard body is something like Litheria or some sort of Body that is not a UNP,CHSBHC or CBBE.

Basically a Body that was somewhat made from scratch in a 3d-modelling program.

As for doing it backwards (Matching Armor -> Body) is fine it's just not prefered because I assume the way you do this is by using the brush tool, which works exceedingly well for minor clipping issues. But is very bad on trying to do large mesh edits as you'll usually end up deforming the mesh horribly on some sliders and still get 'hidden' clipping issues (like the ones your talking about showing up in game but not in Outfit studio).

Well I can't honestly say that I've tried it 'backwards' before (sounds like a long process as I assume you use the deflate tool to get a tight fit on the body?)

also a tip: You don't have to restart bodyslide (or close Outfit Studio for that matter after having saved the project, this way you can still edit the mesh safely if you've found some clipping issues) you can click on the magnifying glass in Bodyslide window at the top right and click "Refresh Outfits" to show your new outfit.

(I should probably mention that in a guide somewhere so it saves some people some heartache if they find a clipping issue and already closed Outfit Studio so that they can't safely re-edit it)
