From what I checked on my MF account, in addition to anonymous blue-rinsed informers, like Youtube they seem to have deployed bots that are designed to scan files and check them against a database of copyrighted works (one of my MP3s -- with an obfuscated filename -- got flagged, so I had to delete it immediately) or keywords associated with purportedly offensive content.

Fuck, tech support would rather bother with paid premium users.

Already moved most of my files. All that's left is a few choice archives, and a whole lotta images. Any ideas for a decent image sharing service that isn't imgur or imageshack?

I'm a big fan of min.us their TOS specifically allows porn, (unlike imgur, which just doesn't delete porn unless it's reported), it has a nice UI and hotlinking is alowed/enabled, so I can upload to min.us and embed inside forum posts and such.

Are you sure? I checked for the hell of it, and:

The following types of files constitute "abuse" and may not be uploaded under any circumstances, when using Minus Inc's services:

Files that violate any law or may be considered to violate any law.
Files that infringe on the copyrights of any entity excluding the user.
Non-image files. This includes archived non-image files.
Adult content and pornography.
Gore or "shock" images that are that are intended to be offensive, disgusting and/or disturbing to viewers.

er.
i wonder what is the size of the problem?

how many users here at loverslab need some sort of place to host/store mod/game related files?

how much storage are we talking about in total?

how much bandwidth are we talking about in total?

can everyone move to using torrents if the files are bigger than what the forum here will allow to upload?

Its Fascism! They are cutting thier noses to spite thier faces now. The download speeds have gone to pot as well, or at least that is what I am experiencing now, I have not reached that limit of downloads I can make, being careful about it before they want to squeeze blood out of me. I wont be using them from now on for uploads. I had a couple of gigabytes stored at Megaupload before the fascists shut that down. Lost the lot. Now I am storing what I can to my portable drive, it is becoming a pain in the rectum though. The world is being taken over by morons!

I know some folk who are now using dropbox as they dont like 4shared.

Torrents are okay if there is someone gracious to seed the files constantly without disruption, but the way I look at it, some leechers just break off after downloading the files.

The problem with using torrents is that ISPs are monitoring use of them now, one friend who was using 'talktalk' as his internet provider got totally cut off, the reason they gave was directly related to his use of torrents!

The file (SexoutNG - Data.fomod) violates the MediaFire Terms of Service. Due to it being distributed from your account, it has been removed. Also, a Strike has been placed against your account and can lead to a termination of service.

Not that that had been updated since.. October. Novermber. Somewhere in there.

As they have the DMCA systems in place and running, in effect they're culling off any accounts considered in violation of their automated IP system. So this leaves only corporate, MPAA, Business Software Alliance and RIAA users to access mediafail.

(P.S. Ignore the troll that tries to make a lame joke out of this.)

I have only read (at this point in time), the first and 3rd page, one one thing i haven't seen mentioned, is something unrelated to actual content of the uploaded files: REFERRERS!

Such a service obviously would see, from which websites downloaders come from. So, if they wanted to ban pornographic content, simply doing strikes to people coming from i.e. loverslab.com, would do the trick.

I like to use tinypic.com. Simple straightforwards upload. No bullshit, no web 2.0 javascript crap, or bloated pages - just plain old images. But: i so far have only used them for non-pornographic content. So, i don't know how they would perform for this.

Now that I think about it, this would explain why all my files uploaded to mediafire are still intact. I pack my files into 7z archives with standard password, scramble file name and extension and add http://anonym.to/ to all download links I share. This requires end user to be able to follow download and installation instructions but result is well worth the effort - only one file deleted to date.

Another one bites the dust, might be old news, no idea. I had this link as a fav. in Firefox for filecrop with a bunch of UNPB stuff.

It seems that Skyrim Game modifications are now considered pornographic even if it is a Armor modification.

I used two browsers, one to show the page I was on with the UNPB stuff and the other to show the Notice I got after clicking on UNPB Silverlight armor.

This just boggles the mind.

What does pornography have to do with dis-respecting women? That's just silly.

I'm not sure which I find worse; their choice of files to remove or their apparent reasoning for doing so.

EDIT: I just got ninja'd seven minutes early. That'll teach me to leave the room before making sure I actually clicked the button.
