MediaFire

Recommended Posts

Folks,

I am seeing the same thing in multiple threads so let's just get this out of the way in one fell swoop:  Mediafire has gone and lost their damn minds.  The first sign of this was banning files and issuing strikes to anyone who had a file with the letters "sex" in them.  The latest round is full on stupid mode with them now restricting all 7z files to 10 downloads unless the uploader has a premium account.  This means that countless files either are or very soon will be unable to be downloaded.  Unless you, the uploader, already has a premium account, I recommend everyone move any file they want to share with anyone else, to another service.  4shared is one such service and there are others as well.

Please do not spam the forums with threads, posts or PM's regarding files no longer available via mediafire.  If you get the broken download message from mediafire, then check the thread to see if someone has already posted about this.  If someone has then please refrain from further posts regarding it for at least a couple of days.  Please do NOT PM mod makers over this as that can get annoying really fast (having hundreds of people PM them is irritating).

PLEASE do NOT start new threads regarding being unable to get to files on mediafire.

Thanks,

Greg

I just found out I received a strike violation of their ToS and the 2 offending files removed.

NER Main Pack + Custom CBBE Slim Flat Pack.7z

NER Main Pack + DMRA Pack.7z

I know they remove files that flags their filters if it contains pornographic or vulgar words, but what did these files contain that sounded the alarms.  What's even stranger is that the custom UNP body packs are still there and some other files with CBBE body in the file name.

Well, I just found out I received 24 strikes and the 24 files removed.  My account is still active so I don't know how many strikes they have to give before terminating an account.  Trying to make some sense from this.  I removed what files I wanted to save and deleted the rest.  I'm sure the staff at 4shared is giving out a collective WTF! after noticing a sudden surge in uploads and new accounts.

57 strikes. Including for some of my own creations. They are using some sort of funky algorithm to determine what to remove that is way wrong. They even removed a folder of nothing buy my own textures. Zip files are not the reason because I still have zip files up and according to there policy, zip files are fine as long as they are not encrypted or password protected.

Apparently they are purging the ranks. The one that were restricted on Friday were removed today and email sent for each one Now out of the ones that are left, more have been set to restricted, but still not all of them.  Two files, identical except for one had a slight weight change, one was removed and the other is still there. A pair of gloves, removed. No rhyme or reason.

I've just made a MEGA account and will be moving all my Mediafire files to that site over time. It looks very promising, and the upload speed is much higher than MF and 4shared it seems. Once those files are moved I'll quit MF altogether. That's all they get for such absurd policies. No wonder they are MFs...

ah well it was just a matter of time. I am glad we were able to exchange as much as we did on MF wihile it lasted. Now many good files that were in danger of being lost in the first big purge of megaupload and others are safe. 4Share is ok, lets try there....or use SendSpace or DropBox for individual large sharing  that is another possible way.

After multiple e-mails back and forth with MF, the sent me this.

Thank you for your patience. I apologize for this inconvenience as it appears these files were removed in error. While we have uncovered the bug which caused this problem and resolved it, we unfortunately weren't able to restore your deleted files.

However we can assure you that your files are no longer at risk, and that you can continue to upload and distribute files freely.  If there's anything else we can do to help please let us know.

Files were still randomly flagged as broken or encrypted. Several e-mails back and forth trying to explain that, they sent me this.

Thanks for your patience regarding this issue.  Our development team has resolved the bug which was causing your files to be incorrectly flagged, so they should now download without restriction.  If you find there are any more incidents like this one please let us know and we will investigate ASAP.

I think they rolled out there new format, (that looks an awful lot like MEGA)  and in the process screwed up there whole system. Some poor programmer just got fired... or promoted.

I suppose I had posted one of those threads.  I've found mega to be pretty good, no issues yet. Although it's a colossal pain in the butt to move ~100 mods but worth it, I believe. Mediafire just blew away anything with no rhyme or reason. Seems really random and the ticket I opened with them has gotten me nowhere. Abandon ship.
